Look and feel your best this holiday season with facial rejuvenation acupuncture at Kingsway Wellness!
While cosmetic facial acupuncture is a somewhat new phenomenon in the West, there are centuries-old records of it being used for improving appearance in East-Asia.
So, what is it? Cosmetic facial rejuvenation acupuncture involves the superficial insertion of hair-thin needles into and around wrinkles and fine lines, facial acupuncture points, motor points, and/or other areas of concern. Facial rejuvenation acupuncture provides many benefits:
Increases local collagen production (which softens fine lines)
Improves firmness of skin
Increases skin moisture
Tightens pores
Reduces dark circles
Promotes a healthy, glowing complexion
How does it work? As we age, there is a decrease in oil production and moisture content within the skin. It is this decrease in moisture content that is responsible for the changes in firmness, complexion and tone that we see in mature skin. By stimulating blood flow and collagen formation, facial rejuvenation acupuncture increases moisture and oil content within the skin - responsible for many of the benefits we see with treatment.
Facial rejuvenation acupuncture also improves muscle tone. The human face possesses upwards of 30 facial muscles, responsible for performing important functions of daily life, such as mastication, and the expression of emotion.
As these muscles under the skin are toned, the skin overtop also gets toned, and firmed. This improves, and prevents the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
This is similar to the effects of Botox, sans the injection of harsh chemicals.
How often many treatments are needed?
Initially, it is generally recommended to complete 4-7 weekly treatments for long-term results. However, this does vary on an individual basis.
After weekly treatments, most patients transition into a maintenance plan.
Are there any side effects?
Facial rejuvenation acupuncture does not require any recovery time. However, there are some mild side effects such as slight bruising, and local allergic reactions (extremely rare).
Prior to treatment, patients are screened for any contrainidications.
How can I optimize my treatments?
After treatments, it is important to stay hydrated. These means aiming for that 2L of water per day, and using your favourite oil or moisturizer to help keep that moisture locked in place! It is also important to protect your skin from harmful UV rays that can be damaging and dehydrating to the skin - never skip the sun block.
